About Us

Act One Dance Company is a performing and competing dance company
which resides in Fryeburg, ME. We perform and compete a wide variety of dance styles including ballet,tap, jazz, lyrical, lyrical jazz, and pointe'. Our company consists of 20 members this year.

Auditions are held each year in August for the coming year. Individual dancers are judged on technique, performance and stage presence, appearance, effort and potential.

Members of our company perform several times throughout the year and also attend competitions and workshops. Our company is currently in its 10th year. One of our greatest accomplishments was winning 2nd place in the ballet division at the Nationals of Talent America in NYC. And some of our favorite accomplishments are performing community services such as The childrens ward at Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME and for Sunbridge Nursing Home in North Conway,NH.
 

Tina Titzer: Executive Director and Instructor

Tina Titzer is originally from Louisiana where she studied ballet, tap and jazz as a child. Her true love became classical ballet and she joined her first ballet company, Acadia Classical Ballet in 1978. She then moved to California and was accepted into the Central Valley Dance Co. where she became a principal dancer. She also studied and performed with The Oakland Ballet . With a gypsy soul she then moved to Florida to further her education and joined The Florida Gulf Coast Ballet Co. under the direction of Ms. Beatrice DeParis. She also studied with The Tampa Ballet on a regular basis. Tina has performed in many ballet productions such as The Nutcracker, Coppelia, Cinderella, and Les Sylphides. Twenty years ago Tina came to visit her sister in Fryeburg, ME. and never left. She opened her dance school Tina Titzer's School of Dance in 1991. From that school came the incredibly talented Act One Dance Company.

 

Patricia McGrath: Instructor

Patricia is originally from Massachusetts where she studied dance since she was a child. There she taught and danced with a local company. Her expertise is in the area of Tap and Jazz Patricia attended Salem State College and Wheelock Cottege for graduate studies in Boston, MA.She studied early childhood Education while dance and theatre have remained a passionate pastime. She moved to the area 9 years ago where she met Tina and helped form the Act One Dance Co. She is also a Third Grade teacher at Josiah Bartlett Elementary in Bartlett, NH.

 

Alena McDonough: Instructor

Alena is originally from Worcester, MA, where she studied and taught at Charlotte Klein Dance Center. She also studied under Gus Giordano, in many master classes and in NYC for five years under different instructors. Alena danced with the Fairleigh Dickinson University Dance group as co-director, and with Deborah E. Hayes Dance Company in New Jersey. She has a minor degree in dance from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Alena has been a practicing dental hygienist for 25 years.
